WHERE IS THE MEDICAL INDUSTRY’S FUTURE POINTING TO? HOSPITALS!

As everyone knows, the pandemic’s impact has driven citizens back into their homes to stay. While most hospitals are still fully open and ready to attend to patients, the main focus is on those affected by COVID-19 therefore practitioners are opting to carry out simple consultations online. What does this mean for the medical industry and most specifically hospitals?

The Breakdown

It would be most likely that citizens suffering ailments that one may consider to be minor when put up against the current situation would prefer to consult their doctor online instead of face-to-face but that plainly defeats the purpose of a physical office within a physical hospital. And the need for maintenance that buildings are having to take on to serve the little amount of patients outside of the COVID-19 spectrum only adds onto this.

This may be untrue for hospitals near the capital or in bigger cities as manifested by reports made on capacity issues but for ones in provinces and smaller areas, revenue has dropped leaving the industry moving toward a questionable path.

The number of people contracting illnesses other than COVID-19 has also declined as they are encouraged to stay home and consequently are less prone, clearly hurting the stability of incoming revenue and is even magnified by the rise of natural alternatives within the average household found online.

As this is the case for hospitals in provinces, there are also problems for those in cities of larger populations. The insufficiency of funding, equipment, facilities and health workers make it almost impossible to keep up. This is more thoroughly discussed in a previous blog post we did.

Now that we’ve discussed the downsides of present-day events for hospitals in both big and small areas, let’s get down to the one they share.

Hospitals are prompted to conduct a temporary closure and quarantine their personnel once a certain number of workers test positive for COVID-19. With no further explanation needed, it is vital that this is done as soon possible, but what about the patients? As one may be able to easily see, this situation is very tricky and disadvantageous to those around the hospital who may possibly need their services or even those already admitted.

The Stumbling Block

Most of those in the industry would know that a new disease requires years to develop a vaccine for and before that, several tests would need to be performed which already puts lives at risk alone whether they would be done on humans or animals. Jenny Lei Ravelo and Sara Jerving mentioned in an article that Chinese authorities had only notified the World Health Organization of what we know today is a deadly virus on December 31, 2020, not so long ago (Ravelo & Jerving, 2020). That being said, it is likely that things will stay nearly the same for as long as the pandemic can go on unless drastic changes are made.

What can we take from this?

You’ve now been informed of the distress this pandemic brings to industries. Take note that those working within these industries are also people who have families to feed and lives to sustain. This not only goes for the medical field but many others as well. So remember to keep healthy, wash your hands and take the proper nutrients your body needs!
